This home would make an ideal bed and breakfast as it is located just one street off of main street Sparta, right in the center of town. There is room for ample parking on the grounds, plus two out buildings, one of which is was used an exercise room and could be further developed into a spa. Also, there is plenty of room for additional expansion with lots of ground space left over.

Commercial status should be no problem as the home is located just 300 feet from a commercial establishment and approx 600 feet from a church.

The home has 5 bedrooms, 8 fireplaces a library which could be used as an additional bedroom a parlor and a large dining room. And two full baths, one features an antique shower stall and the other has a HUGE and deep wonderful claw foot old fashioned tub.

There is a fantastic entrance foyer that’s the size of most bedrooms in modern day homes which is tastefully separated from the rest of the home with functional French doors. The floors are classic heart of pine wide board floors through much of the house.

The home has a central heat and air conditioning unit downstairs and a central air heat pump upstairs. Plus, the workings from the original gas stoves is still installed on the fireplace hearths in each room.

There is a LARGE front porch which stretches the full length of the front of the house and the grounds have gigantic crape myrtles in the front, Leland Cypress on the side drive and loads of producing pecan trees on the rear grounds.

This home was the guest home of the house featured in the books Women of Color daughter of Privilege“ by Kent Leslie and “Ambiguous Lives” by Adele Alexander. There was an HBO special based on the two works.

For those of you not familiar with the works, here is a synopsis from” The Booklist” (excerpt):

Woman of Color, Daughter of Privilege is the life of Amanda America Dickson, the wealthiest black woman in the post -Civil War South. Using legal documents, court records, and interviews with Dickson's descendants, Leslie pieces together a story that provides a surprisingly detailed account of life in the nineteenth-century South. Born of a slave mother and white father in 1849, Amanda America Dickson was raised amid sumptuous surroundings in the plantation house of her father, David Dickson. Legally a slave (until emancipation in 1864), Amanda was able to avoid the consequences of this status due to the prestige of her father. When David Dickson died in 1885, his will revealed that he had left the majority of his property and riches to his daughter. Dickson's white relatives fought the will all the way up to the Georgia Supreme Court, where eventually it was deemed valid, guaranteeing Amanda's independence and wealth. Leslie, an assistant professor of women's studies, has done an admirable job of research and compilation. Her account explores not only the issues of race, class, and gender that Amanda America Dickson faced, but also the impact on and reactions of both the black and white communities.
